Hello! I’m Zhi Ming, a Ph.D candidate in Political Science specializing in Gender and Politics (Major), International Relations, and Political Ecology; based on the territory of the Huron-Wendat and Haudenosaunees First Nations and the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe Nation.
My dissertation examines clean energy projects in the Nusantara and Mekong regions, exploring global/regional relations constituted at sites of energy transitions through a decolonial lens. I also research and write about conflict-related gender based violence, and postcolonial movements across Asia. As an international and First Gen scholar, my research has been awarded the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS-International Stream), the Vivienne Poy Asian Research Award and the LA&PS Dissertation Fieldwork Fellowship.
I am also the founder of Critical Malaya Studies (CMS) Research Group, supported by the York Centre for Asian Studies (YCAR) and the Canada-ASEAN initiatives.
